πŸ‘‹ Hey friend!

How's your week panning out?πŸ˜‰

In this issue, let's talk about the internet's worst kept secret - video! (Uhm... sorry if you thought it was some blockbuster scandal πŸ™ˆ)

Why Videos Really Do Better In The Algorithm😎

It's no secret, video content has taken over all of our feeds. While some creators have been hesitant to jump into the video game, others are utilizing the power of video content to captivate their audiences and drive meaningful engagement.

Let's talk about exactly why videos are just so engaging...

AudioVisual: Videos are an audiovisual media format. By combining visuals and audio, videos have the unique ability to tell compelling stories and effectively convey messages. The dynamic nature of videos resonates with viewers, resulting in increased engagement and shareability.

Social Media Loves Video: Social media algorithms prioritize video content, granting it higher visibility and reach compared to other types of posts. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels have dedicated sections that showcase trending videos, providing creators with opportunities to gain exposure and potentially achieve viral success. The shareability of videos further amplifies their reach, as users are more inclined to share entertaining or informative videos with their own followers.

It's Immersive: Video content also offers an immersive experience that keeps users engaged for longer periods. Unlike static images or text-based posts, videos provide a multi-sensory experience that captures attention and encourages viewers to stay connected. This extended engagement time allows creators to effectively deliver their message and establish stronger connections with their audience.

The Human Face: Video is relatable. You can put a face to the voice and feel as if you have a personal relationship with the artist. How many of you can relate to hating a famous actor you've never met simply because of their portrayal of a certain character?'πŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ Video content humanizes creators and fosters a genuine connection with their audience. By showcasing their personality, emotions, and experiences through video, creators can establish authenticity and build trust and loyalty.

❀️ What's On My Bookshelf

Deep Stuff: Cal Newport

The 3 Big Ideas:

  1. In order to produce the absolute best stuff you’re capable of, you need to commit to deep work.
  2. The ability to quickly master hard things and the ability to produce at an elite level, in terms of both quality and speed, are two core abilities for thriving in today’s economy.
  3. Your work is craft, and if you hone your ability and apply it with respect and care, then like the skilled wheelwright you can generate meaning in the daily efforts of your professional life.

This is what I've learnt from this book...

Deep Work is professional activities performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that push your cognitive capabilities to their limit.

These efforts create new value, improve your skill, and are hard to replicate.

The opposite of 'deep work' is shallow work. Shallow Work is non-cognitively demanding, logistical-style tasks, often performed while distracted. These efforts tend not to create much new value in the world and are easy to replicate.

Newport argues if you spend enough time in a state of frenetic shallowness, you permanently reduce your capacity to perform deep work.

This makes me ponder about how I use my time, because to be honest, I try to multitask every day.

But multitasking, for me, leads to distraction. And the end result is that I get nothing done.

So, instead of trying to juggle many balls, I should focus on one ball and schedule a block of time, not more than 90 minutes at a go, to concentrate and get it done.

🎧Podcasts I'm Listening To...!

JACKED:

Have you ever had a dream? Something you wanted so bad you just couldn’t let it go? For a group of kids in Harlem in the Eighties, their dreams would change pop music forever. Teddy Riley, Timmy Gatling, and Aaron Hall form a group called Guy that would fuse hip-hop and R&B and launch a new sound. By the early Nineties, the New Jack Sound dominated the pop music charts: Bell Biv Devoe, Bobby Brown, Boyz II Men, and many more. But the rise of the New Jack sound would come at a cost, and not everyone would make it to the top.

Hosted by Taraji P Henson, Jacked is a story of friendship, gangsters, double-crosses, and big dreams. From Wondery and Universal Music Group.

Here's the link again.

PS - This is one of the BEST produced podcasts I've listened to, hands down! The production, the script, music, narrative and of course Taraji's animated conversational style...brilliant!
